2026

After graduating from high school, I spent a short time at Auburn University before transferring to the University of Arkansas, where I earned my Bachelor of Science degree. For a while, I thought teaching might be my path, but during my student teaching experience, I realized I needed to head in a different direction. That realization eventually led me to law school, and I graduated in 1985.

As a child growing up as an Army Brat, I had promised myself that I would never join the military. I was weary of moving every two or three years and ready to imagine a more settled life for myself. But somewhere along the way, during law school, those old feelings softened. I decided to give the Army JAG Corps a try, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made.

I served on active duty for approximately five years, with assignments at Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Meade, Maryland. Those years opened doors I could never have anticipated and gave me the privilege of serving alongside some truly remarkable people, many of whom I still remember with deep gratitude.

When I left active duty, I began the next chapter of my career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Litigation Division for the Western District of Texas. Those years took me to both El Paso and Austin, and I remained in that role for 19 years. It was meaningful work, but over time, I found myself wanting a better quality of life, a little more control over my schedule, and the chance to enjoy a truly relaxing vacation now and then.

That desire led me to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I became an Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Administration. For the next 10 years, I held hearings and decided appealed disability claims. At the same time, I continued serving in the Army Reserves for 20 years. Looking back, that dual career gave me a life full of purpose and ultimatelyallowedmetoretireattherelativelyyoungageof58. Don’tgetmewrong, even though it was a lot of work, I did have quite a bit of fun along the way.

Since retiring, I have enjoyed the simple pleasures that once had to wait their turn—travel, tennis, golf, reading, and even a little writing. I have two daughters, a son, and two grandchildren. My wife, Shannon, and I live in Carrollton, Texas, with our two chihuahuas. Life is Good....

This will be the first reunion that I’ve attended, and I’m looking forward to seeing everyone, sharing some life stories, and having a great time.
