2008 News

12-28-08 - From Hank Perkins:

Kathy and I made our trip to Australia back in November.  We were there for about 12 days.  On our last day there we met up with Tiger (known as Jerry down under) and his wife Mel.  We had a fantastic time, and plan to return next year. The country is absolutely stunning and the people are great. Tiger has a great life down there. He and Mel took us to dinner in the community where they met.  It is a small beach town called Manley which is where Mel grew up.  Manly is a suburb of Sydney.  Attached is a photo of Tiger and

myself taken from a park which separates Sydney and Manley. In the photo you

can see Sydney in the background.

11-29-08 - Last night we had an informal gathering at the Elks Lodge in Huntsville. It turned out to be a relatively small group, about 20, but it seemed everyone had a really good time and the party didn't break up until after midnight. As usual there were cameras there and I'll post pictures once I get them.

11-25-08 - A while back I reported on Charlie Lifer's motorcycle racing. Today I added two short video clips of Charlie racing to his page in The Class that you might want to check out.

11-23-08 - When uploading this new version of the website I messed up and deleted the forum and it can't be restored. Although participation in the forum had been light, there were some really good memories on there and I apologize for deleting them. Also, I've been having trouble with the Memorials page in this new format but I'll get that fixed soon.

11-23-08 - The HHS football team has won three playoff games to advance to the 6A semi-finals against Hoover here in Birmingham. To my memory this is the deepest HHS has ever advanced in the playoffs.

11-21-08 - From Pat Hughes:

I just finished shooting a commercial for the scratch lottery in Finland. It's called "The Drummer Boy" and I play a guy who buys a lottery ticket as a Christmas present for his wife. It's a clever little story with ominous overtones. I've been building a steady "cottage" acting career in films, TV and stage here in Sweden.

Here's a link to the commercial: www.moviemall.se/showreel/casting. Click on "Rumpalit"

You can read about the event on the centennial website, http://www.huntsvillehigh100.com/. The site will also link you to a photographer's site with lots of photos from the event. I'm terrible at recognizing people in photos like this, so if any f you see any of our teachers or classmates in the photos, let me know.

111-3-08 - Mark Harbarger and his wife Lisa both completed the New York City Marathon this past Saturday. I know that they have also done the Boston Marathon in recent years.

10-30-08 - News from Jennie Floyd:

I am currently shooting a featured role in a new Web series called "Whorified!  The Search for America's Top Whore!"  It's a raunchy spoof of reality shows, mainly "The Search for America's Top Model," and I play Jean, the sweet mid-western homemaker who thinks the whole contest is "neat" and "fun."  It's hilarious and the promo is on You Tube, Funny or Die, and several other websites and we haven't even premiered yet.  We wrap in November.

Here's a link to the promo:  Funny or Die

10-26-08 - Last night was the debutante ball in Huntsville and 4 of our classmates had daughters who were presented: Eleanor Hovater, Mark Harbarger, Linda Drummond and Bryan Bentley who had two girls presented. Since retiring from the Huntsville police force he has become a warrant magistrate.

10-3-08 - Karl Roth set up an HHS Class of 76 Facebook page today. Looks like it could be fun. You have to join Facebook in order to see the page. I set up an account today and within 5 minutes I saw about 15 of our classmates on there, including 4 or 5 of our lost folks. I'm completely new to this, as I'm sure most of you are also. It seems pretty easy. Here's the link to the page: Huntsville High School Class of 76

9-15-08 - From Jennie Floyd:

I have just been cast in my first lead in a feature length film!
It is an independent, to be filmed in the Bay Area in November, written and directed by Alejandro Adams ("Around the Bay").  The tentative title is "Child of God" and I am the star, playing a Christian singer torn about crossing over to sing secular music.  I am thrilled!

He was going home from work at night and ran out of gas on Hwy.431 near Dug Hill Rd. He called his wife and she brought him gas. As he was pouring gas in his vehicle he was struck by a passing car. He was killed instantly. His wife was also very close to being hit.

8-19-08 - Karl reports today that Tim is in rehab at HealthSouth and hopes to go home on Friday.

8-8-08 - Here's another update on Tim, this one from Karl Roth:

Here's an update on Tim. I went by to see him this evening. He's in room 497 at Huntsville Hospital. When I went by, his sister Kelli and his son Austin were there. I talked to Tim for about 20 min.. He seemed to be doing really well, considering. We talked about the reunion party at the pool and some other stuff. He asked me about my daughter Olivia, whom he hasn't seen in 10 years, so it seemed to me that his memory is fine. Also, he was hitting on the nurse, so he seems like the same old Tim. Kelli told me they didn't have to do any surgery on his brain, although he still has some swelling, but they're hoping that it will subside. He lost his sight in one eye, but can see light and shapes with the other and are hoping that his sight will improve. He broke his arm in three places, and dislocated his shoulder and I think, somehow, his nose was straightened. He said that he would be in the hospital for another week, or so. Then rehab in Huntsville for a while. I think he wants to see some folks, so get by there if you can. I told him maybe we'd get up a poker game.

Kelli told me that he was going home for lunch on Highway 72, around Scottsboro, going about 55, or so. He went around a car and when he went to get back in the right lane, he drifted over too far, over corrected and flipped eight times into the median. Luckily, there was an off duty EMT, that was on the scene. He said Tim was gone and had to be resuscitated. Then, they med flighted him to Huntsville. Kelli said he was wearing his seatbelt, which he normally doesn't do. God was surely looking after him. Keep on praying, let's get our buddy Tim back in the game.

8-6-08 - Here is an update on Tim Croft from Kerry McGrady:

Here is what I found out this morning from talking to his Mom. He has been moved to a room on the fourth floor @ Huntsville Hospital from being in NICU for several days.

They did get some good news this am about his eyesight. Tim may be able to make some recovery of his sight but they are not sure as to what extent. Apparently they did not have much hope until this morning. He may have to go to B’ham to receive therapy. Mrs. Croft said the swelling in his head is going down but there was still quite a bit.

I am doing much better.  It has been nine weeks since the accident and I am

now in therapy.  I am walking without aid now and last week I started back

to work part-time and hopefully full-time this week (if I can handle it).

All my injuries will heal and I feel so fortunate to still be here.  My mom

was driving and my sister Becky was also in the car.  Mother was not hurt

and Becky was banged up but o.k.
