Helen R, Casey, 85 years of age, and a resident of Lakeland, Florida, passed away, July 16, 2021 at Lakeland Regional Health. She was born June 22, 1936, in Fall City, Alabama, now submerged beneath Smith Lake. Helen's child and young adult years were spent at the top of Straight Mountain, outside of Oneonta, Alabama, where her family established a Farm-to-Market Tomato and Vegetable packing house and General Grocery Mercantile store. Huntsville, Alabama, served as her home until moving in retirement to be closer to her son and grandchildren in Brandon and Lakeland. Lakeland Florida been her home for the last 4 years. She was an educator for over 30 years, teaching high school mathematics in Sylacauga, Fort Payne, Alexandria, and Huntsville city schools. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science, Vanderbilt Peabody College and Master of Psychology, Jacksonville State University. Survivors include her son Brian Casey and wife Kay; her grandchildren Tiffany Sage (Jason), Jessica Casey, Caitlin Miller (Devon); and her great grandson August Miller, and great granddaughters Ella Miller and Felicity Sage; Niece Janet Lake (Donald) and Nephew Darrel Beard (Penney). She was preceded in death by her parents Mattie Walker and Ulus Tolbert; her sister Nila Jean Beard; her former husbands, Jackie Casey (Father of her son "Brian") and Arthur Scharein. Friends may call Wednesday, July 28, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the Lemley Funeral Home; 6878 2nd Ave W, Oneonta, AL 35121. Burial will follow at Antioch United Methodist Cemetery, 3928 Co Hwy 20, Oneonta, AL 35121.
