Joe Anderson

Joe Anderson was a quiet soul, focused, kind and always eager to offer a cordial greeting.  - Van Brown

Joe's brother Scott wrote the following:

He leaves behind three beautiful children ages 19, 17 and 14, and a his wife of over 20 years.

Joe did his duty by serving in the Navy for over 11 years. He got out in 1992 after our mother past away to be closer to the family.

He also did his duty as a civilian and was actually earning a very decent earning as sales rep for several electronic companies based out of California.

After Sept 11, he changed.  He seemed to loose interest in the business world and found himself
drawn back to the Military.  He told me more than once that he wanted to make a difference somehow.

We all thought he was crazy for joining the Army at 46. That's right 46! We also thought the
Army was crazy for taking him.  Joe sailed through everything. In his short time he was in the Army he advanced several ranks and was promoted to Sergent in no time.

We were all shocked and saddened  by his  sudden death, he died of a heart attack. We were
worried that he would shipped out to Iraq or Afghanistan, but  did not expect this at all.

At his funeral, he was given full military honors, but more  importantly  Many (younger) soldiers got up and spoke about the impact Joe had on them and the other men in his platoon. Many spoke of his faith and motivation. It was very inspiring.

I guess Joe, in his short time, got exactly what he wanted...to make a difference.
