I moved to Hunstville (from Hawaii) just before our freshman year started. I was an Army brat who had moved around all her life and we moved in next door to the Beatons. MaryLiz was my first friend in Huntsville (I knew Jessica Brown who had moved from Hawaii too) - she became my expert on all that was Huntsville, she helped me through the precarious social world of HHS and remained my friend until she died, far too young.
MayLiz was kind and lovely and generous as a friend.
I can remember sitting in her room - all beautifully decorated with matching quilt and curtains and wall paper - this was a big deal to girl that lived in rented houses or military quarters all her life. We would try on clothes and sit and dream. The Beatons had a built in pool in their back year - we had so much fun swimming late at night, pool parties with a bunch of girls - jumping from the pool into the hot tub and back into the cold pool. - Barbara Shea
